Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Letchworth, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra charges applicable for drivers under 25. A valid, full driving license appropriate for the vehicle category must be presented, held for the duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. You will need to provide valid identification, proof of current address, and payment details, including a security deposit. Additional requirements may be specified in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Letchworth branch. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include applicable VAT. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be created and signed to document its state. When returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at pickup; refueling fees will be applied if the tank is not full. Late returns may lead to extra charges, so please notify us promptly if you expect to return the vehicle late. Insurance and Liability Policy

Additional insurance options may be offered to limit your financial liability, and we encourage you to review these closely. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless you opt for additional coverage. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities or purposes. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or engaging in other risky behaviors. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting to unauthorized parties or permitting unapproved drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, the vehicle should not be used for purposes it was not intended for, including exceeding passenger or weight limits, or operating outside the designated geographical areas without prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Limits
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Letchworth will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business related to your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.

These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of their courts.
